Anime Review – High School DXD

Oh Hai~!

Image

Its your one and only Otaku-chan here and today I will be reviewing a very ‘Otaku’ animation series. The one and only ‘High School DxD’! Be warned this series is seriously not for the kiddies! 🙂
The series itself is fairly new, only being released in 2012! But none-the-less, its a animation series worth watching as its full of fanservice, action, romance and comedy! Truly a great contribution to the world of Otakus!
The story follows Issei Hyodo, a second year highschool student who is especially involved with ero! At first he doesn’t seem to have any special traits, he’s your average student, who doesn’t seem to excel too much at anything besides having dirty thoughts. He lives a relatively peaceful existence and often daydreams of his fantasy girls until one day he is invited to a date by a fellow student, Yuma Amano. Things go steady until the end of the date, where she is revealed to be a ‘Fallen Angel’, though all Issei can think about is her…oppais. Failing to run, he get’s killed, and dies contently for actually seeing real oppais. Even so, he wakes up the next morning having believed that his death was actually a dream. His little peaceful existence is interuppted when ‘Rias Gremory’, one of the most popular students at Kuoh Academy, appears naked in room and informing him that he is now a devil belonging to her faction! Through out the series, it is thought that Issei only has ‘Boosted Gear’, one which only doubles his power and strength momentarily. It is only then revealed that he holds a forbidden gear – the Red Dragon, one of which is powerful enough to slay any god or demon.
I thoroughly enjoyed the series! It had action sequnces, one which made my eyes water from the sheer excitement that was happening on screen! It is definitely on the more ‘better’ looking animation series, the colours appear strong and the series maintains this sharp contrast even in the most brutal of fights. Though the series has a lot of action, it is also very ‘Ecchi’ as-well. When the series progresses Issei (unknowingly) acquires more attention from the opposite sex leading to what will eventually be a harem. There is an abundant amount of fanservice through the series that will not disappoint the most veteran Otakus. But what really makes this animation series enjoyable is the comedy. Issei’s stupidity along with his ingenuity and pervettedness crafts the most hilarious of moments, often leading to Issei being scolded by his own team, something you’ll have to watch to see!
The characters where quiet memorable, some of the characters personalities were a bit extreme. Issei is pervetted all the time and that turns out to be his greatest strength throughout the series. Rias, the leader of the Gremory family, as powerful as she is, is portrayed as helpless at times, a little lost you could say, but thankfully, Issei tends to be the one who is able to ‘ground’ her. The other cast members like Asia the nun, Akeno the princess of thunder and ultimate sadist, Koneko and Kiba are notable members as well, though I wouldn’t say that they are the ‘main’ protagonists of the High School DXD
The music in this series is awesome! The openin theme ‘Trip -Innocent of D’ by Larval Stage planning was pretty cooled, easily listening! The ending theme by StylipS – ‘StudyXStudy’ was also epic! Couldn’t help but jump around everytime I listened to the ending theme! All round the audio definitely contributes to the awesomeness of this series!
There may be some terms that won’t be fully explained in the series. For that I will definitely recommend reading the manga in order to understand the full awesomeness that is High School DXD.
Visual – 9/10
Audio – 9/10
Star Rating – 4.5/5 stars!
This series is definitely for the mature animation viewers but it has most defintely won my heart!
Its has been a pleasure summoning this review with my awesome magic! Stay Tuned for more reviews!

Anime Review – Highschool of the Dead

Oh hai~!

For all you dead-eating-the-living fans do I have a special treat for you! Today I will be reviewing ‘Highschool of the Dead: Gakuen Mokushiroku Haisukuru obu za Deddo’ Hah! what a mouthful right?!

(This is the official Zombie Survival Guide)

As the title explains its about highschool and those that have been designated ‘them’ – the fleshing munching monsters. The story takes place in 2010 Japan, as what seems to be as I understood, a pandemic of biblical proportions, literally turning the dead into lovable face biting monsters. The story follows a group of high school students along with the school nurse, a young girl and a dog whose life is ultimately plunged in the hell and survive the deadly streets of Japan during a worldwide event known as the ‘Outbreak’. As the groups tries to survive the apocalypse, they must also face the collapse of society as we know, in the form of dangerous fellow survivors and deal with their own possible decay of their moral codes.

I will say straight from the get-go, this anime series is not for children so be warned!

Now the plot of the story is one we’ve all heard time and time again. A disease that causes humans who are infected to get a very severe case of the munchies. Throughout the series infection only seems to spread via the munching on your uninfected appendages.

For all those who love the blood, guts and gore, look no further! HOTD as it is commonly abbreviation does not disappoint. Now because I know you all love spoilers oh~so~much~! I’ll try my best to avoid main plot points.

The Characters are amazing! You really get a sense that these young men and women have no idea of what they’re getting themselves into, clinging desperately to hope against insurmountable odds yet always come out on top right at the very end. Each character is unique, each having very distinguishable personality traits, strengths and weakness. They also face moral dilemma’s! Something a lot of other anime’s don’t include, the shellshock of going through such a traumatic event! Apart from that the fan service…. My god is there fan service!

But of-course, that’s for all you lovely folks to decide!

I am a man of action! And as such, I really do love my action movies. HOTD goes above and beyond! From the very beginning of the series, there is as much blood and gore you’d find in your local butcher shop, from beating the brains out of your best friends flesh eating skull to all those who’d love to try human sashimi !(courtesy to Saeko Busujima) Without really going into detail, if action is what you’re after with a hint of romance and drama, this really is right up your alley!

Music! I’ve always been a fan of J-pop music but when each episode gets its own theme, I’ve never felt more alive! Each musical score performed by Maon Kurosaki is unbelievably amazing and it goes to compliment the Highschool of the Dead series! The music to describe the severity and dire-ness of their situation is quiet moving at times. It often denotes a sense of struggle and despair with a bleak future just to mess with your hope.

All in all, Highschool of the Dead is a great series! It really brings a new edge to the whole zombie-apocalypse theme! So I’ll quickly recap: Fleshing-eating zombies: Check! Busty anime girls – Check! Fight scenes of ridiculous proportions – Check! There you have it. What more do you need to watch Highschool of the dead! hah! Highschool of the Dead is a series that all zombie-loving fans will enjoy and even those who aren’t into the whole ‘severe case of the munchies’ will enjoy!
